Safety in the sun

You can help to protect yourself from the risk of sunburn and skin cancer by following the precautions listed below.

• Clothing and Hats
• Sunscreen
• Look for Shade
• Look after your Eyes
• Driving
• Looking after Children in the Sun

Skin cancer is by far the most common cancer in Ireland.

• One in every eight men and one in every ten women will develop skin cancer by the age of 74 years.
• 9 in every 10 skin cancers can be prevented as they are caused by the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays.

Damage to the skin by the sun is permanent.
